The Hand (Parable Title)

I really enjoyed the story.  I like how the story reminded me about when I first began school—then, my favorite grade school teacher was MS Anderson.  MS Anderson took special care to teach me, a leftie, how to write.  Everyday, MS Anderson would sit with me and spend lots of time making sure that I held my pencil correctly, slanted the paper properly and formed my letters legibly.  MS Anderson became a special teacher to me because she didn’t have to go out of her way and tutor me the way she did—especially since their were so many others in our class.  The teacher in today’s story demonstrated the same caring for Tommy as my teacher did for me.  It is amazing how influential a person can be if they would only model the kind of caring these teachers did for me.

The Puppies (Parable Title)

Wow, what a powerful story.  Billie, in this story had wisdom beyond his years!  I really enjoyed how when the pet store owner offered to give the crippled puppy to Billie without charge—Billie would have none of it.  It is obvious to me, that what Billie stood for was treating all of God’s creatures as God would treat them.  Billie understood this well and really shocked the pet store owner when he lifted his pant leg and showed the owner that he was crippled himself.  The phrase that really stuck with me was when he stated to the store owner that the puppy would “need someone like me to take care of him”  because, “I understand what he is going through.“  This story reminded me of when Jesus said, “What so every you do to the least of my “creatures” that you do unto me!”

The Hitchhiker (Parable Title)

What a powerful story—I really admire how Steve ignored the prejudice that was rampant in the then 60’s and picked up the black woman stranded on the side of the road.  It says something about Steve’s character to be courageous enough to stand firm to beliefs in what is right and help a fellow human being in need.  I believe that we are sometimes timid about doing good because of all of the “scary” stories we’ve heard about stopping on the side of the road.  God knows what is right and doing things for others irregardless of what others think is admirable.  It is also neat how a couple of weeks later Steve got a huge color television and a note thanking him for stopping and helping the woman make it to the hospital in enough time to visit with her dying husband.  The woman signed the card—Mrs. Nat King Cole
