Mass for the Feast of Blessed Br. Solomon Leclercq
and the Brother Martyrs of Rochefort

September 2

Entrance Antiphon:

This holy man fought to the death for the law of his God, undaunted by the threats of the wicked; his house was built on solid rock.

Prayer:

O God, in the intense suffering of imprisonment, deportation, and martyrdom, you gave the blessed martyrs Solomon, Leon, Roger, and Uldaric the grace of fidelity and pardon. Through their intercession grant that we always remain faithful to your Church and eager for reconciliation with our brothers and sisters. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

First Reading: Romans 8:31-39

What then shall we say to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?

He who did not spare his own Son but handed him over for us all, how will he not also give us everything else along with him?

Who will bring a charge against God's chosen ones? It is God who acquits us.

Who will condemn? It is Christ (Jesus) who died, rather, was raised, who also is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us.

What will separate us from the love of Christ? Will anguish, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or the sword?

As it is written: "For your sake we are being slain all the day; we are looked upon as sheep to be slaughtered."

No, in all these things we conquer overwhelmingly through him who loved us.

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor present things,  nor future things, nor powers,

nor height, nor depth,  nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 31: 3-4, 6, 7, 8, 17, 21

3
incline your ear to me; make haste to rescue me! Be my rock of refuge, a stronghold to save me.
4
You are my rock and my fortress; for your name's sake lead and guide me.

Into your hands I commend my spirit; you will redeem me, LORD, faithful God.
7
You hate those who serve worthless idols, but I trust in the LORD.
8
I will rejoice and be glad in your love, once you have seen my misery, observed my distress.
17
Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your kindness.
21
You hide them in the shelter of your presence, safe from scheming enemies. You keep them in your abode, safe from plotting tongues.

Response: Into your hands, Lord, I entrust my spirit.

Gospel Acclamation: 1 Corinthians 1:18

Alleluia. R. Alleluia.

The message of the cross is foolishness to those who do not believe, but to us it is the power of God.

R. Alleluia.

Gospel: Luke 9:23-26

Then he said to all, "If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.

For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.

What profit is there for one to gain the whole world yet lose or forfeit himself?

Whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.

Prayer over the Gifts:

Lord, bless our offerings and make them holy; fill our hearts with the love which gave Blessed Brothers Solomon, Leon, Roger, and Uldaric victory over all their suffering. Through Christ our Lord.

Communion Antiphon: Matthew 16.24

"Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his
cross, and follow me," says the Lord.

Prayer after Communion:

Lord, may the mysteries we receive give us the spiritual courage which made your martyrs Blessed Brothers Solomon, Leon, Roger, and Uldaric faithful in your service and victorious in their suffering. Through Christ our Lord.
