Book of Daily Prayer (6-10)

6. LET ME DO YOUR WILL

God, You call me to be holy and to follow You in a particular way of life. This way could be as a single person, a married person, a religious brother or sister, a priest, a deacon, or a lay minister.

With the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, help me to know to what vocation I am called, how to serve You in my life.

Give me Your grace, Your life, to have the courage to follow this call with my whole heart, my whole being. I offer this search for my vocation in your name, You to whom I wish to give my life.

7. LIFE IS FOR LIVING!

Life is for living and living is an experience in growth and unfoldment. It is not so important what happens around us or even to us. What counts is what happens in us.

8. A NATURE PRAYER

The deer, the horse, the great Eagle, These are our brothers and sisters The earth is our Mother… All things are connected Like the Blood which unites one family What ever Befalls the earth Befalls the sons and daughters of the earth. (Chief Seattle 1854)

9. SURPRISE!

I dreamt death came, the other night,
And, Heaven’s Gate swung wide.
An Angel with a halo bright
Ushered me inside.

And, there! To my astonishment,
Stood folks I’d judged and labeled:
As, “quite unfit”; “of little worth”
And, “spiritually disabled!”

Indignant words rose to my lips,
But never were set free,
For every face showed stunned surprise,
Not one expected Me!

10. CENTER OF THE MARKET PLACE

“I simply argue that the cross be raised again at the center of the marketplace
as well as on the steeple of the church.
I am recovering the claims that Jesus was not crucified between two candles, but on a cross between two thieves; on the town garbage heap; at a crossroads cosmopolitan that they had to write His title in Hebrew and in Latin and in Greek; at the kind of place where cynics talk smut, and thieves curse, and soldiers gamble. Because that is where He died, and that is what He died about…”    (George McLeod)
